Getting Started

Welcome to your new SaaS template. This guide will walk you through what's included and how to get up and running quickly.

What's Included

This template comes with everything you need to ship a SaaS product:

  • Authentication — better-auth with email/password, session management, and secure cookies.
  • Database — Drizzle ORM with PostgreSQL, ready for your schema.
  • API — Hono + oRPC for type-safe backend procedures.
  • UI — shadcn/ui components with Tailwind CSS v4.
  • Blog — content-collections with MDX support, authors, tags, and RSS.

First Steps

1. Set up your environment

Copy .env.example to .env.local and fill in your values:

cp .env.example .env.local

You'll need a PostgreSQL database. The easiest way is to use Docker:

docker run -d \
  -e POSTGRES_USER=postgres \
  -e POSTGRES_PASSWORD=postgres \
  -e POSTGRES_DB=saas \
  -p 5432:5432 \
  postgres:16-alpine

2. Generate the auth schema

pnpm auth:generate
pnpm db:push

3. Start building

pnpm dev

Your app is now running at http://localhost:3000.

Customizing the Template

App name and URL

Update these in your environment:

NEXT_PUBLIC_APP_NAME="Your App"
NEXT_PUBLIC_APP_URL=https://yourapp.com

Adding database tables

Edit packages/database/src/tables/index.ts and run pnpm db:push to sync.

Writing blog posts

Create a new .mdx file in content/posts/:

---

author: admin
---

Your content here.

Next Steps

  • Set up your authentication providers
  • Design your dashboard layout
